We have come to the end of a lengthy series of presentations on a world that most of us have no recollection of, yet we are acutely aware of its effects on us daily. What we deem to be our emotions are just impulses that are reported through our five senses. We think of emotions as complex waves of effects that cascade through our whole being, yet how are we aware of this? It may be because our heart is beating faster or we are sweating. Both these effects are physical responses, signalling we are having an “emotional” episode. So, where is that emotional episode occurring? A psychologist may say it occurs in your mind, but what is a mind, and how can a mind feel emotions? One thing we know for certain is that when emotions grab us, the one thing almost guaranteed to be absent from the equation is a rational mind! So, clearly, emotions must originate from some other location. Through this series of presentations, we have postulated that there are planes of matter that extend beyond any conceivable sub-atomic level we can postulate on the physical plane. These “higher” planes of matter are given names in esoteric studies, and the first and closest to our physical place is the emotional.
While direct, personal knowledge of the emotional world, its life, and its phenomena may be limited, it is refreshing to note the growing interest in this realm. The number of individuals who have experienced these aspects firsthand is rising, and this trend is expected to continue.
Psychic faculty, especially among children, is increasing as children today choose to come into incarnation again because society has advanced enough for them to expand their consciousness effectively in their environments. Considering the chaos that prevails today, the statement made may seem optimistic. But for meaningful changes to be made in our society, we need monads present who know what those changes need to be and can work towards achieving them. As knowledge of the Emotional World gradually becomes accepted and ceases to be regarded as unhealthy or “tabu”, our understanding of it will likely increase both in extent and intensity. Thus, for example, books have been published and widely read, dealing with nature spirits, better known as fairies, and showing even photographs of these dainty creatures and their work in the economy of nature, whilst any open-minded enquirer will experience little difficulty in finding people, young and old, who frequently see fairies, at work and play, as well as many other entities and phenomena of the Emotional World. These encounters with nature spirits are more likely to occur in less frenetic cultures for the reason we have discussed at length.
The global rise of spiritualism has made the Emotional World and its phenomena more widely known and accepted. The widespread embrace of spiritual practices has played a significant role in this recognition and understanding.
Physical science, with its ions, electrons and subatomic particles, is on the threshold of the Emotional World. The research of Einstein and others is rapidly making the conception of a fourth dimension acceptable, which has been familiar to students of the Emotional World for so long. This has not only made the Emotional World and its phenomena objectively real but also familiar to millions of people worldwide. This widespread acceptance of spiritualism has significantly contributed to the recognition and understanding of the Emotional World.
In the realm of psychology, modern analytical methods promise to reveal the true nature of, at any rate, the lower fraction of Humanity’s psychic mechanism. This confirms some of the statements and teachings put forward by ancient Eastern books, Theosophists, and occultists. Psychologists and psychoanalysts discuss “complexes” when describing how human emotions work. Buddhists have talked about these complexes for thousands of years. They called them skandhas. At the same time, neurophysiologists are puzzling over how, when a person is clinically dead and then revived, they are aware of what is occurring around them. How could this be? After all, they were dead, weren’t they?
These are some indications that the methods of orthodox Western science are leading to results identical to those which have been common knowledge in certain parts of the East for ages. During the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, this knowledge was rediscovered by a small group of individuals who, guided by Eastern teachings, had developed within themselves the faculties necessary for the direct observation and investigation of the emotional (as well as higher) worlds.
Sceptics cling fiercely to their material existences, but they must acknowledge that the world is increasingly aware of the existence of the emotional plane and its phenomena, which the mainstream cannot ignore for much longer. Once accepted, it will inevitably and immeasurably enlarge and deepen Humanity’s conception of themselves and their destiny. It will also revolutionise their attitude towards the outer world, including the other kingdoms of nature, physically visible and invisible. Once a person succeeds in establishing the reality of the Emotional World to their satisfaction, they are compelled to re-orient themselves and make a new set of values for the factors that affect their life and determine their activities.
Sooner or later, but inevitably, the broad conception that physical things are not the only environment we all inhabit. What is called, by many, a soul and a spirit play a significant part in the life of all of us. As Hylozoicians, we tend not to get too hung up on “souls” and “spirits”, realising they are just envelopes we evolve in on our journey through the Cosmic Physical Kingdom. We focus on the concept of the monad, but it does not matter how you see yourself. What matters more is that you see yourself as a conscious entity unfolding its latent powers with the help of the various physical, emotional, and other vehicles you make and inhabit as you seek to experience your environment. When such a concept gains winder traction, it will displace all other viewpoints and lead Humanity to a complete realignment of their lives.
A realisation of a person’s true nature will dawn through life after life on earth, with interludes in other and subtler worlds. They will realise that they are steadily evolving and becoming more and more spiritual. This will logically and inevitably lead humanity to see that, if and when it chooses, it may cease playing with life and realise there are more significant goals to achieve. It will stop drifting on the broad current of the evolutionary stream and may instead assume the helm of its life voyage. From this point in the growth of a person’s “awareness” of things and their inherent possibilities, they will pass to the next stage. They will approach the “ancient and narrow” Path. There, they will find others who have walked the path before them. These trailblazers we will come to know are filled with limitless patience. They are eager to help us. They wait for their younger siblings to leave the nursery of ordinary worldly life and enter into their higher life. With their guidance, assistance, compassion, and power, humanity may rise to the dazzling heights of spirituality they, themselves, have attained. Humanity can then become, in turn, a saviour and helper to others, thus speeding the mighty plan of evolution towards its goal.
