Gnostics & Meditation
Study meditation, contemplation, gnosis, antahkarana, symbolism, and the inner envelopes as one disciplined path of esoteric development
This theme explores meditation as the practical method that matures into contemplation, gnosis as the quality of inner knowing, antahkarana as the bridge built through disciplined development, symbolism as the language through which deeper truths are conveyed, and the etheric, emotional, mental, and causal envelopes as the structured field in which this work is understood.
Key Concepts
Gnostics
Gnostics were members of an esoteric knowledge society, named for their possession of Gnosis, the knowledge of reality. Their tradition preserved reality-knowledge in symbolic teachings, transmitted in lodges and veiled from the uninitiated by a language requiring keys of interpretation. Its centres flourished in Egypt, Arabia, Persia, and Asia Minor long before Christianity. The gnostics represent one branch of the ancient esoteric tradition: a community safeguarding knowledge of reality, expressing it through symbols, and transmitting it to qualified seekers.
Contemplation
Contemplation is sustained, unwavering inward attention fixed upon an object, idea, or ideal after meditation has established alignment and receptivity. In contemplation the inner mental eye remains steadily directed, and this concentrated focus releases a continuous stream of energy that vitalizes, clarifies, and transforms the chosen content. It deepens consciousness, strengthens desirable thought-complexes, and can serve the building, energizing, and directing of thought-forms. In deeper esoteric work, it becomes a method of transmutation and vision.
Antahkarana
Antahkarana is the consciously built bridge of higher contact linking the lower human consciousness with the causal and second-triad consciousness above it. It is the bridge between the mental and the causal and, in a fuller sense, between the first and second triads; for this reason it is also called the rainbow bridge. The monad builds it through sustained higher mental and causal activity, discrimination, synthesis, alignment, and creative imagination. Antahkarana serves as the path of transition from first-self existence toward second-self existence.
